| GORDO'S HISTORY |
Gordon West was the sole survivor from the bottom deck of the U.S.S. Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Shortly after his release from duty, he and his wife Nell opened a small no-name pizza and burger “joint” directly across from SMU’s Ownby Stadium. At the time, unable to afford a sign, the eatery became known simply as Gordo’s, a nickname he adopted from his employees due to his large stature and strength.
